HKU Research Skills Development Course

Given the success of the summer programme International Research Skills Development Programme jointly organized with Imperial College London (Imperial) and a mainland university since 2009, the Graduate School is offering a new 3-day residential Research Skills Development Course during the Reading Week. The course is based on the award winning transferable skills programme regularly run at Imperial and will be taught by HKU tutors who have received training from Imperial tutors.

Aims

The primary purpose of the course is to enhance both the personal and research effectiveness of participants. The course offers a wonderful opportunity for the development of awareness and skills which are significant for students; postgraduate study, career and whole person development. Furthermore, it exposes students to a new learning environment, meet people from different disciplines and cultural backgrounds and have fun!

Course Details

Semester 2, 2011-12 (March 7 - 9, 2012) (Click here for the course detail)
Duration: Students will be residential from March 7 to 9, 2012 and be available for the whole period including evening activities.
Venue: Kadoorie Institute - Shek Kong Centre (KISK) at Yuen Long
Curriculum: The course adopts an interactive teaching mode which focuses on experiential learning, achieved through a series of challenging group tasks. Participants will be divided into small teams to perform various group exercises. Topics include planning, project management, creativity, communication skills, group dynamics, networking, developing self-awareness, collaborative research and careers. As much as possible, links are made to the research environment and participants are encouraged to apply their new insights to their work.
Quota: 30 students
Language of Instruction: English
Accommodation: Students will stay together at KISK during the course period.
Certification: Record of course completion will be input in student's ranscript.

Duration: Students will be residential from October 18 to 21, 2011 and be available for the whole period including evening activities.
Venue: Kadoorie Institute - Shek Kong Centre (KISK) at Yuen Long
Curriculum: The course adopts an interactive teaching mode which focuses on experiential learning, achieved through a series of challenging group tasks. Participants will be divided into small teams to perform various group exercises. Venue: Breakthrough Youth Village, Shatin
Curriculum: The course adopts an interactive teaching mode which focuses on experiential learning, achieved through a series of challenging group tasks. Participants will be divided into small teams to perform various group exercises. Topics include planning, project management, creativity, communication skills, group dynamics, networking, developing self-awareness, collaborative research and careers. As much as possible, links are made to the research environment and participants are encouraged to apply their new insights to their work.
Quota: 30 students
Language of Instruction: English
Accommodation: Students will stay together at the Breakthrough Youth Village during the programme period.
Certification: Upon successful completion of the course, students shall be provided a Letter of Completion.
