Terms of Reference

I. POWERS AND DUTIES

  1. To formulate and determine policy and guidelines on the administration of research postgraduate education.
  2. To formulate and determine policy and guidelines on the requirements for the award of the degrees of MPhil and PhD.
  3. To provide the Board of Graduate Studies with policy and guidelines on the distribution of MPhil and PhD places and the allocation of Postgraduate Studentships.
  4. To advise on all issues relating to the administration of regulations and procedures governing the MPhil and PhD degrees.
  5. To formulate and determine policy and guidelines on the provision and allocation of residential accommodation for postgraduate students.
  6. To consider reports annually from the Board of Graduate Studies.

II. MEMBERSHIP

  1. Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) (Chairman).
  2. Three teachers appointed by the Senate from different faculties for two years at a time amongst the following academic groupings:

    (a) Faculty of Dentistry
    Faculty of Medicine
    (b) Faculty of Engineering
    Faculty of Science
    Faculty of Architecture
    (c) Faculty of Arts
    Faculty of Business and Economics
    Faculty of Social Sciences
    Faculty of Education
    Faculty of Law
